Inventor Jerome Case founded the business of CASE in Racine, when he started the construction of threshing machines. Later the company gained recognition internationally as the initial maker of steam engines for its agricultural use. Eventually, the company grew to become the world's biggest producers of steam engines.
Case had established themselves in the construction machinery industry by 1912. They became a manufacturer of road building machinery including road graders and steam rollers. Case grew their construction equipment business through various acquisitions, beginning with the American Tractor Corporation in 1957. Case had expanded their company by the mid-1990s to become the top maker of light-sized to medium-sized construction equipment.
Case merged with the company New Holland in the year 1999 and together they became CNH Global. This corporation became responsible for marketing several of the world's top brands of construction and agricultural machinery.
Case has been responsible for a lot of industry firsts, while continuing to this day to take a role creating new solutions and products for the materials handling industry.
