Counterbalance Forklift Training
According to Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations, anyone who operates a counterbalanced lift truck should have training. Training for these types of industrial vehicles comprises both hands-on driver training and classroom training. Refresher training is needed occasionally to keep driver skills up to date. OSHA does not specify a required minimum time for either the classroom or hands-on training.

Counterbalanced Forklifts
The counterbalance lift truck can balance its cargo thanks to a counterbalance built into the truck. Blades could move down and up parallel to the body of the truck. The forks do not pivot. Operators who drive counterbalanced forklifts should have training on the specific trucks they will be operating and in a similar workplace surroundings.

Classroom Training
In classroom training, the lift truck operator will be taught about the model she or he would be using. Information comprises specifications such as load, height and weight capacity. The operator would learn the basics of fueling or charging the forklift, depending on whether it is a gas-powered or battery-powered engine. Safety information pertaining to the particular lift truck, such as how to walk safely around the lift truck, will be covered.

Supervised Driving
Driver training will be supervised to make sure that the driver will know how to correctly utilize the counterbalance lift. This practical training would take place in the same kind of setting in which the driver will be working. The operator will train with the same kinds of surrounding buildings and other structures on the same kind of terrain, as well as similar vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

Refresher Training Courses
Counterbalance forklift operators are required by OSHA to take a periodic refresher training program. Nevertheless, there are no specifications as to the frequency at which a driver requires this training. Then again, for regular drivers, refresher training courses should consist of classroom-style training.
